National Park is the oldest animal park in Kenya. Nairobi Kenya’s
National Park is set at an altitude of 5,000ft and covers an area of
117sq.km. It is only a mere 7 km from the Nairobi Kenya’s central
business district. The Nairobi Park opened its doors in 1946 and
provides a perfect day outing from the Nairobi Kenya vacation city.
It is a fantastic spread of savannah spiraling from a background of
the Kenya capital city of Nairobi.

Nairobi Kenya national park has the largest population of black
rhino in the country. Nairobi Park is buffalo lions, leopard,
crocodile hippo and a very successful breeding cheetah population.
The Nairobi national park has an annual migration of wildebeest
between July and august.

park has 6 picnic sites. The Park has an exciting hippo pool and
nature trails.

is home to over 100 species of mammals.

Kitengela migration corridor which attracts an exciting array of
wildlife. Though Nairobi National Park is a seasonal sanctuary, most
of the game like the indigenous rhino population is resident in the
park through out the year. Large herds of eland, zebra and
wildebeest enter the Nairobi park in the migration periods of July
and august for the rich, supple and fresh grass brought by the
rainfall cycles.

A resident cheetah has over the past years successfully raised seven
cubs in Nairobi Park. This has been to the excitement of the local
and international tourists. An ideal starting point for
ornithological safaris, Nairobi national park has more than 400
species of birds.
Burning of ivory in Nairobi National park
The Nairobi National park was the pioneer Kenyan national Park. It
is in this Kenyan animal park that the former president Moi and the
then Kenya Wildlife Service director-Dr. Richard E. Leakey torched
ivory worth Kshs 60Million to demonstrate to the world how serious
Kenya was in curbing the slaughter of elephants for their tusks. A
plaque at the site of the bonfire reads ”Great objectives require
great sacrifices” The ivory bonfire has since been lit twice to
eradicate stocks confiscated from poachers.

The Nairobi National park has no accommodation but Nairobi city of
