Mauritius, an island country in southwest Indian Ocean, comprises the island of Mauritius and several independencies. It’s situated approximately 800km to the east of Madagascar.

Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, is on the northwest coast of the island. The city covers an area of 1555 acres (about 6.3 km2) with a population of 150 thousand. Mauritius has a subtropical maritime climate. The average coastal temperature is 25℃ and the average rain fall is 1270mm. There are two seasons. Hot from November to April and warm from May to October.

The island’s agriculture has a strong focus on sugarcane growing, thus sugar refining accounts for a large proportion of the industry.

Being the capital city of Mauritius, Port Louis is the only port city on the island and served as the center of commerce, trade and Christianism as well. In recent years, with the rapid development in industry, Port Louis has over one hundred factories, in particular, the city becomes the Export Processing Zone of textile mills. Port Louis also boasts its large sugar dock, which is one of the most modernized special sugar dock in the world.
 

Port Louis ranks itself among the most ethnic Chinese populated area in Africa. Among the approximately 30 thousand ethnic Chinese, most of them are immigrants from Hakka, Shunde and Nanhai of Guangdong Province. In the China town, most ethnic Chinese are doing business in commerce, restaurant and hotel.

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolan Botanic Garden
This sixty-acre garden features a pond of Victoria amazonica lilies and an extensive collection of palms including the Royal Palm, Brazilian Queen Palm, Raffia Palms and the Chinese Lady Palm.

Blue Penny Museum, Port Louis
Founded by the Mauritius Commercial Bank, this museum houses items of high national heritage including the famous stamps of the “Post Office” series printed in 1847.

This modern shopping and entertainment complex features clothing boutiques, fine restaurants, hotels, a casino and live street entertainment.
