Rhone-Alpes Travel Guide
France's largest region in terms of size and second largest in population, the Rhône-Alpes region is a very attractive place for travelers..
Rhône-Alpes is found in the south-east of France, where it borders Italy and Switzerland to the east, Provence to the south, and Burgundy to the north. It is a wild and very beautiful part of France.
The eastern part of the region is 'high Alps' country', including the highest mountain in France, Mont Blanc. Visible from many directions, Mont Blanc remains a very impressive site.
Skiing is of course a major attraction to the region, for example around Chamonix and the other world-renowned resorts. The Gorges de l'Ardeche - amazingly beautiful, about 40km of deep gorge with the Ardeche at the bottom. Really best seen by canoe, because the narrow road around the top of the gorge is congested and often has limited visibility. Lake Geneva and the towns along its shores. And towns to visit: Lyon, Grenoble, Annecy..
