To make the most of any vacation, a certain amount of preparation is needed. In addition to travel arrangements, packing, and the like, it would also be a good idea to collect information regarding the destination.

A trip to Ireland can be made very fruitful and comfortable by following a few tips given by other travelers. First and foremost, buying a good and preferably waterproof map of Ireland is advisable. Buying guides and maps locally while in Ireland can also be of immense help, as they may be more detailed. This is especially beneficial for those who rent a vehicle and drive around on their own.

Small cars equipped with music systems are popular, and it is advisable to take a few cassettes and CDs along. Rented cars do not come equipped with parking discs, so one should take care to have a parking disc handy.

The Irish countryside offers a lot of bed and breakfasts for those who prefer lodging away from the hustle and bustle of the cities. Local etiquette demands that you confirm accommodation by evening. The Irish breakfast is served early, so lazing in bed could make you lose out on your morning meal.

Ireland can be cold, and the rains are a bit unpredictable. It would be wise to bring along adequate warm and protective clothing. Formal wear is expected at some of the upscale restaurants.

If you are planning to visit a lot of historic monuments, opt for weekly Historic Explorer tickets or National Trust Touring tickets. You will save a lot by not having to buy individual admission tickets wherever you go.

While traveling through the Irish countryside, it is better to avoid intake of tap water and even raw fruits and vegetables that have been washed in tap water.

Tourists would be wise to purchase a certain amount of travel insurance when they travel to Ireland. Incidents of lost or damaged luggage, travel delays, and the like are not unheard of. The telephone numbers for general emergency in Ireland are 112 or 999.

By keeping these few tips in mind, travel through Ireland can be a pleasant and memorable experience.
